WORKING TOGETHER TO ATTRACT COWBOYS It
is hard to believe that not that many years ago, we
as an industry had to deal with maxing out too many
contestants in the Rough Stock events. Not the
case anymore. After some consideration and
consultation with cowboys, Three Hills put together
an incentive program unlike anything else being done
in the industry. By working together as a
group, we were able to secure sponsorship
opportunities and provide series awards that can
attract contestants. In addition the series
has given up and coming contestants something to
shoot for as well. While many travel out
west competing in bigger events, many permit holders
have moved up in the standings... while the cat's
away the mice have been doing damage... Whether it's
a Polaris ATV or a Henry Yellow Boy, it's a great
competitive opportunity for cowboys in any event.
Keep an eye out as we unveil an even bigger program
for 2010.
IT'S A BABY BOOM ON
THE RANCH!
The
Hills are alive with the sound of babies everywhere
at Three Hills Ranch. The highlight of the
2009 season was the birth of our first embryo
transfer colt from Harry and Feathers. A big,
strapping stud colt was produced and carried by a
surrogate mare. Feathers also delivered a nice
filly colt we hope will fare as well as Painted
Feathers her full sister. It’s been a
busy time on the ranch as it finally has warmed up
and the grass is now lush and tall. With 300
commercial cows, 125 rodeo cows and 30 mares all due
to foal and calve in from April till May, it’s an
exciting but time consuming time making sure moms
and babies are healthy and happy. The
highlight of the season was the birth of Jake and
Courtney's new son, Cade Michael.
Courtney and Cade were on the rodeo trail one week
after the blessed event at Manawa.

Three Hills' Annual
"FREE RIDE" Buck out a Big Success!
15 New PRCA Permit holders were
selected at the 2009 Free Ride Buckout held at the
Three Hills Arena May 8 & 9. There was a full
slate of young cowboys on hand to compete for the 15
positions in Team Three Hills for the 2009 summer
series. Two full days of instruction and riding gave
the judges ample opportunity to see who fit the
bill. Fred Boettcher, NFR Bull Rider
and PRCA Bull Riding Director was on hand to
facilitate the instruction, discuss Prorodeo 101,
entry procedures, and other topics of interest to
eager ears. B. J. Schumacher, 2008 Bull Riding
Champion, taking some time off at home in Wisconsin
also spent one day spectating and offering a helping
hand. Three Hills extends a big Thank You to
all the Great Lakes rough stock cowboys that helped
at the event as well. Over 100 head of
young horses and 100 head of young bulls had their
first opportunity to show their stuff.
